Welcome to Give Attendance to Reading, the podcast of Max, Charlie, and Zack Taylor. We are three brothers preparing for Christian ministry who love to read and talk, so we made this podcast. Here we offer summaries of and discussions around some of the best books in Christian literature, one chapter at a time. By listening in each week, not only will you hear a condensed, ”cliffs notes” synopsis of each book, but you will also get commentary on the topics discussed along with our take on how the information should translate to real-life application. Thanks for listening, let’s get into it!

013. Vol. 1, Ch. 13: Jesus, His Son
Monday Jun 24, 2024
Monday Jun 24, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Christ is the theme of all of Scripture. In this episode Max and Charlie look at the historicity of Jesus and the heresies that have been taught concerning Jesus. It is of utmost importance that we understand Jesus as Scripture reveals him. The conversation also touches on other topics surrounding Jesus such as visiting the land of Israel, watching “The Chosen,” and celebrating Christmas. Our lives need to be more focused on Jesus, on all of Jesus, and on Jesus truly and biblically. May our lives be ever-increasingly devoted to following Jesus until we see Him face to face.

Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
When we truly understand how impactful the blood of Christ is, we can see why such powerful hymns have been written about it, messages preached on it’s meaning, books written, and even places dedicated to commemorate the sacredness of it. Christ’s blood bought our justification, which is the basis and the very foundation of our fellowship with God. And it is the blood of Christ that cleanses us from all sin and enables us to walk in the light. This episode dives a little deeper into the nuances of justification and sanctification and how the blood of Christ affects our lives in the present as well as in the future.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from chapter 13 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 135-144).

Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Sadly, we are missing a co-host today. Zack is not able to record with us for the time being so cut us a little slack haha! Today we get to look at what it means to walk in the light. It involves repentance, holy living, and confessing our sin to God on a regular basis. As usual, there are many potential errors we could fall into related to this topic. We hope that from today’s episode you will gain some more insight into the book of 1 John and will be inspired to live for the Lord as you head into a new week.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from chapter 12 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 125-134).

010. Vol. 1, Ch. 10: Sin
Monday Jun 03, 2024
Monday Jun 03, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Thank you for listening to this increasingly unpopular yet very important topic! After looking to God, we must look at ourselves to see our sin. This requires looking into God’s Word and believing what it says about us. We have to confront what it means to “walk in darkness” before we can have fellowship with God, in whom there “is no darkness at all.” Even though this is not the most comfortable subject to discuss and think about, it is crucial to our Christian life, as we will continue to see. We hope this episode is a help to you and a sober reminder for all of us that will produce closer communion with Christ.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from chapter 11 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 115-124).

009. Vol. 1, Ch. 9: The Holiness of God
Monday May 27, 2024
Monday May 27, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
How does God’s holiness fit with the main theme of first John—joy? It all goes back to our fellowship with God, which we cannot know fully without understanding God’s holiness and pursuing holiness in our own lives. This conversation touches on the fact that preaching should start with God and not man’s perceived needs, the importance of education in and submission to the Word of God, the shortcomings of human philosophy and man’s reasoning, the overemphasis and mis-definition of love in our society today, and more. We are glad you have chosen to join in the discussion!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from chapter 10 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 105-114).

008. Vol. 1, Ch. 8: Mysticism
Monday May 20, 2024
Monday May 20, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Christianity can be categorized into two primary approaches: Mysticism or Evangelicalism. This becomes important in today’s chapter because it affects how we seek to have fellowship with God. One of the greatest takeaways from today’s conversation is to base our faith on intellect and reasoning from God’s Word rather than on our feelings. It all rests on the primacy of the Word of God. We also discuss some of the major criticisms of mysticism and try to answer the question of how to strike a balance between liturgical and charismatic worship.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from chapter 9 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 93-103).

007. Vol. 1, Ch. 7: Knowing God
Monday May 13, 2024
Monday May 13, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
What does it mean to be a Christian? What would you say is the essence of Christianity? This question is explored in this week’s episode as we seek to explain what fellowship with God is, what it is not, and how it is practiced. Topics such as support for Israel, prayer, and closeness with God are major themes in the conversation. We hope this episode makes you think about what it means to share life with God.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from chapter 8 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 83-92).

006. Vol. 1, Ch. 6: All Because of Christ
Monday May 06, 2024
Monday May 06, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
“That which we have seen” refers to Christ, and it is He Who is the pinnacle of the chapter we are discussing this week. We will see that Jesus can only be fully appreciated through a proper view of sin. This is one reason we cannot shy away from the honest preaching against sin if we want to cultivate real fellowship with God. We will also discuss the problem of setting up barriers to Christ, Who should be everything we need! We hope you will be encouraged to examine yourself and return to Jesus if there is anything hindering full fellowship with Him!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from chapter 7 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 73-81).

Our Approach
Everything we read and discuss is always filtered through our Christian worldview and 'taylored' (pun intended) specifically for other followers of Christ. So whether you are a lay Christian who enjoys Christian devotional literature or training for ministry yourself, we hope these discussions will be edifying to you. Throughout the show, we plan to cover a mixture of devotional, doctrinal, and Jewish history works.
