Welcome to Give Attendance to Reading, the podcast of Max, Charlie, and Zack Taylor. We are three brothers preparing for Christian ministry who love to read and talk, so we made this podcast. Here we offer summaries of and discussions around some of the best books in Christian literature, one chapter at a time. By listening in each week, not only will you hear a condensed, ”cliffs notes” synopsis of each book, but you will also get commentary on the topics discussed along with our take on how the information should translate to real-life application. Thanks for listening, let’s get into it!

021. Vol. 2, Ch. 8: The Antichrist
Monday Aug 19, 2024
Monday Aug 19, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Before we get into the topic on the end times and the literal antichrist, we first discuss some applications for believers today, from pastors to lay church members. We must ask ourselves how we are protecting ourselves from false teaching that rises up from within the church? And are we treating our pastor as a functional Messiah rather than looking to Christ? We will discuss some ways that we could be more protected from heresies before heading into the contents of the chapter on the end times and the antichrist. The closing challenge is to look for Christ’s second coming, and until then to strive to live holy separated lives for Christ! We hope it’s an encouraging listen for you.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 9 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 233-242).

020. Vol. 2, Ch. 7: The Love of the World
Monday Aug 12, 2024
Monday Aug 12, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Worldliness is a complicated and often-misunderstood topic in Christian teaching, but it doesn’t have to be. This chapter discusses what worldliness truly means (and, maybe even more helpfully, what it does not mean). From politics and technology to history and eschatology, we discuss the basic principle that worldliness is intended to mean as well as several examples of where this might come up frequently in our lives.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 8 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 223-232).

019. Vol. 2, Ch. 6: Children, Young Men, and Fathers
Monday Aug 05, 2024
Monday Aug 05, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
This chapter was not laid out in the way we were anticipating, which was refreshing. Rather than breaking down the intricate connections and structuring of these principles, Lloyd-Jones focuses on three simple truths we need to be reminded of. These simple assurances are (1) knowing that our sins are forgiven, (2) knowing the way in which our sins are overcome, and (3) knowing the Father and the Son. We also touch on perfectionism and how it relates to this passage along the way. Hope you enjoy the conversation and are encouraged by these simple, yet beautiful, reminders.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 7 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 213-222).

018. Vol. 2, Ch. 5: Loving the Brethren
Monday Jul 29, 2024
Monday Jul 29, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Have you ever wondered how love for the brethren affects our walk with Christ? That is what we discuss in today’s episode. We think this is a very important topic since brotherly love is the chief distinguisher of a follower of Jesus. We also touch on the seriousness of dealing treacherously with the brethren, which also leads to dealing treacherously with God. Our treatment of others absolutely affects our walk with God. We hope this conversation is helpful to you, thanks for listening!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 6 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 201-212).

017. Vol. 2, Ch. 4: Knowing That We Know Him
Monday Jul 22, 2024
Monday Jul 22, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Today’s discussion revolves around confidence of salvation and the importance of being assured. Probably all of us have doubted the surety of our salvation at one time or another for one reason or another, and that has an extremely limiting effect on the Christian life we are intended to live. Throughout this episode we discuss reasons for questioning our salvation, repercussions of these doubts, and the way to be assured in our walk with God. We hope this chapter reminds us that our confidence comes from knowing Him and following His Word.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 5 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 191-200).

016. Vol. 2, Ch. 3: The Advocate
Monday Jul 15, 2024
Monday Jul 15, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
It is such a comfort to those who are sensitive towards sin and distressed at their own potential to stray from God that we have an advocate, Jesus Christ the righteous! Once we got the episode started (😂), we were able to discuss our need for a mediator and talk about how great of a go-between Jesus is. This only magnifies the gospel in our view and causes us to be even more grateful for the gift we have been given.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 4 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 181-190).

015. Vol. 2, Ch. 2: Doctrine and Life
Monday Jul 08, 2024
Monday Jul 08, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
‘Astute’ is the word that comes to mind when we think of this chapter. The importance of doctrine being connected to life is on full display all throughout these pages. We hope the conversation is edifying in two ways (1) in seeing the utmost importance of living out the clear imperatives and instructions of Scripture, and (2) in discussing these specific doctrinal issues that come up in these verses. It is also worth noting that not all doctrinal problems and questions are worth entertaining, since some can be purely theoretical and have no impact on our actual practice. The main takeaway is that doctrine should not be sought after apart from a desire to live out the practical implications of that doctrine. Enjoy the episode!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 3 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 171-179).

014. Vol. 2, Ch. 1: More on Sin
Monday Jul 01, 2024
Monday Jul 01, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
In this episode, we discuss one of our favorite chapters yet. This is one of the most comprehensive explanations of whaat sin is and why we should not commit sin that we have heard, and we are excited to talk about the content. If you haven’t read this chapter of Life in Christ, we highly recommend that you do! The struggle against sin is something that Christians will be dealing with for the rest of our lives, so we need this reminder of why we should hate sin. I think this episode will be a help towards a closer walk with God.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 2, chapter 2 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 161-170).

Our Approach
Everything we read and discuss is always filtered through our Christian worldview and 'taylored' (pun intended) specifically for other followers of Christ. So whether you are a lay Christian who enjoys Christian devotional literature or training for ministry yourself, we hope these discussions will be edifying to you. Throughout the show, we plan to cover a mixture of devotional, doctrinal, and Jewish history works.
