027. Vol. 3, Ch. 3: Holiness

This conversation is so important. Charlie and I both known people who have been affected by wrong teaching on holiness. This includes Keswick (pronounced “kezick”) teaching, entire sanctification, and the holiness (synonymous with sinless perfection) movement, which has gained a lot of traction through many of the dispensational or arminian denominations that trace their origin back to the Wesleys and Methodism. It has also expanded its influence through countless hymns, authors, missionaries, and Christian speakers and organizations. These wrong views can be very harmful, as we discuss in the episode. You don’t want to miss this conversation on what holiness is, what it looks like, and what it is not.

026. Vol. 3, Ch. 2: Destined for Glory

As Christians, we are confident and fully persuaded that we are destined for glory, but glory itself is not the highest prize, rather being with Christ is what we look forward to most. Our motivation in life or death should be our fellowship with him. Today we are discussing the truths that believers have confidence in our current standing in Christ, we have confidence in glory as a part of our future, and we know something of this promised glory. Other topics that come up are the rapture and assurance of salvation. If we are sons of God, one day we will see Christ as he is, and we will be like him. What a glorious thought to cling to throughout this week!

024. Vol. 2, Ch. 11: The Truth and the Lie

It is easy to downplay the danger of a lie. In this episode, we are looking at the truth, lies, and how we should fight false doctrines that try to creep into our lives. Jones gives several reasons as to why we should be so harsh in our response to deception, and we also share some thoughts on the topics of interdenominational unity, pragmatism, and theological triage. We hope this episode demonstrates the importance of not believing lies and also highlights the blessing of believing the truth—abiding in and enjoying fellowship with God.

This week we discuss the role of the Holy Spirit as it applies to doctrine as well as daily leading. After a description of the chapter’s content, we give our own take on the topic. What exactly does it mean that a Christian has no need that any man teach him? How has this historically been taken to the extreme? We all see the dwindling numbers at church and the statistics paint a bleak picture for the church’s future, so what are we to do? Some say it is time to set aside nonessential differences and band together to fight the enemy, but D. Martyn Lloyd Jones preaches a different premise from this passage in 1 John. As we discuss in today’s episode, the guiding principles of the church today should be knowing and trusting God’s Word, maintaining doctrinal purity, and seeing our place in the plan of God for this present age. 021. Vol. 2, Ch. 8: The Antichrist

Before we get into the topic on the end times and the literal antichrist, we first discuss some applications for believers today, from pastors to lay church members. We must ask ourselves how we are protecting ourselves from false teaching that rises up from within the church? And are we treating our pastor as a functional Messiah rather than looking to Christ? We will discuss some ways that we could be more protected from heresies before heading into the contents of the chapter on the end times and the antichrist. The closing challenge is to look for Christ’s second coming, and until then to strive to live holy separated lives for Christ! We hope it’s an encouraging listen for you.

Worldliness is a complicated and often-misunderstood topic in Christian teaching, but it doesn’t have to be. This chapter discusses what worldliness truly means (and, maybe even more helpfully, what it does not mean). From politics and technology to history and eschatology, we discuss the basic principle that worldliness is intended to mean as well as several examples of where this might come up frequently in our lives.
