Welcome to Give Attendance to Reading, the podcast of Max, Charlie, and Zack Taylor. We are three brothers preparing for Christian ministry who love to read and talk, so we made this podcast. Here we offer summaries of and discussions around some of the best books in Christian literature, one chapter at a time. By listening in each week, not only will you hear a condensed, ”cliffs notes” synopsis of each book, but you will also get commentary on the topics discussed along with our take on how the information should translate to real-life application. Thanks for listening, let’s get into it!

033. Vol. 3, Ch. 9: Love in Action
Monday Nov 25, 2024
Monday Nov 25, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
In this episode, we discuss the dangers of being enamored with Christian concepts and not actually living them out. We also go on to talk about the difference between loving and liking and how we are to love God and love the brethren. Ultimately our example, when it comes to this kind of love, is Jesus Christ and the love of God Himself. Let’s not just enjoy talking about it and hearing about it, but may we live out God’s love in our daily lives.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 10 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 368-378).

032. Vol. 3, Ch. 8: The Marks of a Christian
Monday Nov 18, 2024
Monday Nov 18, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Another great chapter to discuss this week! The topic is incredibly simple as Jones uses our passage in 1 John to show three marks of a Christian (1) he is unlike the world, (2) the world hates him, and (3) he loves the brethren. This reading was a genuine encouragement to me (Max) personally, and I hope you enjoy listening to Charlie and me discuss it.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 9 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 357-366).

031. Vol. 3, Ch. 7: From Death to Life
Monday Nov 11, 2024
Monday Nov 11, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). This verse comes up in today’s episode as we discuss how we are to practically love one another. We also talk about the importance of realizing who we are (not just what we do), what it means to be transferred from death to life, the struggle of sanctification, and more. If you have anything to add, we would love to hear your thoughts! Thank you for listening.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 8 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 347-356).

030. Vol. 3, Ch. 6: Growing in Grace
Monday Nov 04, 2024
Monday Nov 04, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
This week we are discussing the controversial topic of sinless perfection from 1 John. As usual, Jones does a masterful job of examining this tricky subject by looking at the language, content, context, comparing Scripture with other Scripture, and testing his argument’s consistency. Not only is this chapter a good defense of his position on this issue, but it is a great example of how the believer ought to examine any tough topic or conduct a thorough Bible study. The most encouraging part of these verses is who we are as believers and the future that awaits us. Hope you enjoy listening in!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 7 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 335-345).

Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
We’re back! Thank you for bearing with us as we took a few weeks off to deal with things in our personal lives and recover from a cold. We are glad to be back discussing another great chapter from Martyn Lloyd-Jones’ book, Life in Christ. This week we are looking at Christ’s purpose in coming so that He could destroy the kingdom of the devil. We discuss things like sharing the gospel, the problem of reductionism, blaming God for our hardships, and God’s love which is evident in everything around us. We are so glad to be back in our study of 1 John, and looking forward to next week! Thanks for listening in!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 6 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 325-334).

Monday Oct 14, 2024
We are coming off of an insanely busy week that was filled with several scheduled activities and some unexpected events, and did not have time to record our full episode. We are really sorry to our listeners for missing today, and we plan to get back on schedule starting next Monday. May you reflect on the goodness of God and all that we have to be thankful for over this beautiful fall season.

028. Vol. 3, Ch. 4: The Sinless Savior
Monday Oct 07, 2024
Monday Oct 07, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Continuing the appeal for holiness, this epistle now shifts the attention to our perfect Messiah who came to address our sin. This chapter puts a razor-sharp focus on the reason Christ came, to rescue us from sin and give us His righteousness. We want to view Jesus properly and understand that He saves us from the guilt of sin and the power of sin. Contrary to worldly opinion, sin leaves us in bondage, but Christ can set us free from sin's chains. We hope this recording allows you to reflect on our great Savior.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 5 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 315-324).

027. Vol. 3, Ch. 3: Holiness
Monday Sep 30, 2024

Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
This conversation is so important. Charlie and I both known people who have been affected by wrong teaching on holiness. This includes Keswick (pronounced “kezick”) teaching, entire sanctification, and the holiness (synonymous with sinless perfection) movement, which has gained a lot of traction through many of the dispensational or arminian denominations that trace their origin back to the Wesleys and Methodism. It has also expanded its influence through countless hymns, authors, missionaries, and Christian speakers and organizations. These wrong views can be very harmful, as we discuss in the episode. You don’t want to miss this conversation on what holiness is, what it looks like, and what it is not.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 4 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 307-314).

Our Approach
Everything we read and discuss is always filtered through our Christian worldview and 'taylored' (pun intended) specifically for other followers of Christ. So whether you are a lay Christian who enjoys Christian devotional literature or training for ministry yourself, we hope these discussions will be edifying to you. Throughout the show, we plan to cover a mixture of devotional, doctrinal, and Jewish history works.
