Welcome to Give Attendance to Reading, the podcast of Max, Charlie, and Zack Taylor. We are three brothers preparing for Christian ministry who love to read and talk, so we made this podcast. Here we offer summaries of and discussions around some of the best books in Christian literature, one chapter at a time. By listening in each week, not only will you hear a condensed, ”cliffs notes” synopsis of each book, but you will also get commentary on the topics discussed along with our take on how the information should translate to real-life application. Thanks for listening, let’s get into it!

041. Vol. 4, Ch. 6: God Dwells In Us
Monday Jan 27, 2025
Monday Jan 27, 2025
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Jones gets into the mechanics of our verse today, which is a good reminder of what it looks like to conduct deep Bible study. Things like asking the text questions, comparing Scripture with cross-references from itself, and connecting every verse with the context and flow are important Bible study techniques. The main takeaway is the importance of living by faith and loving God because of His love for us. That will produce the love for the brethren that is emphasized here.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 4, chapter 7 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 463-472).

Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
There are so many benefits to expository study of Scripture. In today’s message from D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, we see the natural outworking of understanding the love of God. It is important that we understand Christianity is not merely truth to be contemplated, it must be lived. It is so good to incorporate Bible study in your devotions, but may we live out the truths we discover and not just be enamored with the thoughts.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 4, chapter 6 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 451-462).

What a timely reminder of God’s amazing love for us as we head into a new year. Lloyd-Jones argues that a lack of understanding God’s love is one of the greatest needs of our time. This is so important because we will not be able to love one another adequately without first having an appreciation for God’s love for us as displayed in His act of sending Christ to die in our place. We hope the discussion and personal anecdotes cause you to reflect on God’s love more throughout this year. Always remember, we love Him because He loved us first!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 4, chapter 5 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 441-450).

Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
If you were able to read this chapter, we trust you were encouraged by its contents. On the show we discuss things like the essentialness of brotherly love, the history of Israel’s love for God, the failure of the church at Ephesus in losing their first love, the importance of our love for God and the love of God, as well as the differences between John’s poetic style of writing and Paul’s logical style. If there is one thing that is probably the most important practical takeaway, the challenge to read the gospels cannot be overstressed. Seeing and studying the love of Christ is one of the best ways to replicate it.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 4, chapter 4 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 429-439).

037. Vol. 4, Ch. 2: The All-sufficiency of Christ
Monday Dec 23, 2024
Monday Dec 23, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Jones continues discussing the importance of testing the Spirits in this week’s chapter, and he does so by showing the centrality of Christ in our doctrine. He points out that anyone who misrepresents Christ is not of God. This includes getting the virgin birth, incarnation, atonement, or any other teaching of Christ wrong. We discuss the dangers of progressive Christianity and subtle shifts away from sound doctrine that are prevalent in the church today. Don’t let anything detract from Christ.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 4, chapter 3 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 419-428).

036. Vol. 4, Ch. 1: Test the Spirits
Monday Dec 16, 2024
Monday Dec 16, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
To follow up from last week, we are looking at the importance of not only having the Holy Spirit, but also testing the Spirits. This chapter emphasizes the importance of balance to avoid extremes, how a person’s lived experiences affect their message, and why it sometimes feels as though we are fighting error on multiple fronts from multiple directions. It was a helpful read for both of us, and we hope you enjoy the conversation.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 4, chapter 2 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 409-418).

035. Vol. 3, Ch. 11: The Holy Spirit
Monday Dec 09, 2024
Monday Dec 09, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Today we get to talk about the often neglected topic of the Holy Spirit. We discuss how to be surrendered to the Holy Spirit, errors of the charismatic movement, the day of Pentecost, and how the gift of the Holy Spirit pertains to salvation, the Christian, and the church. The Holy Spirit is vital to our spiritual lives and we would do well to study Him and appreciate Him more.
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 4, chapter 1 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 391-408).

034. Vol. 3, Ch. 10: Condemnation, Confidence, and Assurance
Monday Dec 02, 2024
Monday Dec 02, 2024
Life in Christ by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
We get into the importance of prayer, a controversy about our hearts and God condemning us, and the issues of confidence and assurance, all in this episode. It is so important that we think about what prayer really is, which is being “before God” as Jones puts it. This communion with God is what sustains every believer in our vital relationship with God. We hope through the discussion (and a little bit of debate), you take away a desire to strengthen your prayer life. That is one of the most important things in the Christian’s life!
Next week we will be discussing the reading from volume 3, chapter 11 of “Life in Christ” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (pages 379-389).

Our Approach
Everything we read and discuss is always filtered through our Christian worldview and 'taylored' (pun intended) specifically for other followers of Christ. So whether you are a lay Christian who enjoys Christian devotional literature or training for ministry yourself, we hope these discussions will be edifying to you. Throughout the show, we plan to cover a mixture of devotional, doctrinal, and Jewish history works.
